Vegetarian Vegan Herbs Dairy Free Eggless Baked Fayre
2 teasp Olive Oil
2 teasp Salt
5 Garlic Cloves,
1 tbsp Fresh Thyme
Leaves (1 heaped teasp dried)
1. Place the yeast
and warm water in a large mixing bowl, and allow to stand in a warm place for 10
minutes or until frothy.
2. Add the oil,
salt, garlic, thyme, and whole wheat flour plus half the white flour and mix
until a stiff manageable dough is formed, adding more white flour as necessary.
3. Turn onto a
floured surface and knead for 5 to 10 minutes, or until dough is smooth and
elastic. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and set aside in a warm place for
1 hour, or until doubled in size.
3. Turn the dough
onto a floured surface and punch down then form into a round, place on a baking
sheet which has been lightly dusted with cornmeal, cover with clingfilm, and set
aside for 30 minutes to rise.
4. Preheat the
oven to 230C, 450F, Gas Mark 8.
5. Uncover the
bread, lightly brush with cold water and bake for 5 minutes. Reduce the oven
temperature to 200C, 400F Gas mark 6 and continue baking for 20-30 minutes, or
until the loaf is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped. Cool on a wire
