Preheat the oven to 170C, 325F, Gas mark 3 and grease a Yorkshire pudding tin.
Place the margarine and sugar into a mixing bowl and beat with a wooden spoon until pale and fluffy.
Measure the syrup into a pan and heat it gently. Stir the warm syrup into the creamed fat and sugar mixture then work in the
oats and salt until well blended.
Put mixture into the tin, pressing down firmly and evenly. Bake in centre of oven for 30-45 minutes till golden. Cut into
fingers and leave in the tin until cold - if
the pieces are removed whilst hot, they may crumble.
