Burger Buns Recipe

Veg  HT CD CBF  40mins plus proving

A classic white bread bun which is perfect for all your home made burgers.

Makes 8     Hot Cold Vegetarian  Rolls  Breads  Baked Fayre 

 

Ingredients
150ml/5fl.oz. Milk
90ml/3fl.oz. Water
50g/2oz butter
375g/13oz Plain Flour
5g Instant Yeast
15g/½oz  Granulated Sugar
¼ teasp Salt
1 Egg
 

Instructions

 

1. Heat the milk, water and butter in a small saucepan until quite warm.

2. Place half the flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a mixing bowl then add the milk mixture and egg and mix well.

3. Stir in the remaining flour, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating well between each addition.

4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.

5. Divide dough into 8 equal portions, shape each portion into smooth balls, then place on a greased baking sheet, flatten slightly, cover with a damp tea towel and leave to rise for about 30 minutes.

6. Preheat the oven to 200C, 400F, gas Mark 6 then bake the rolls for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown.

Bake - To cook in an enclosed oven

Beat – To introduce air into a mixture using a utensil such as a wooden spoon, fork or whisk, in order to achieve a lighter texture.

Knead - A rhythmic action in dough making whereby one end of the dough is secured by the heel of one hand and  stretched away, then pulled back over the top. In bread making, two hands are use.

Grease -to  – To cover the inside  surface of a dish or pan with a layer of fat, such as butter or margarine,  or oil using a brush or kitchen paper.

 

Serving Suggestions

Cut in half widthways and place a meat patty (burger) on top of the bottom half, top with relish, and/or salad of your choice then place the lid on top
