Tofu Burgers


Veg HT BBQ MC 20 mins

Serves 4

Recipe Tags:  Hot Vegetarian  Nuts Herbs Main Course Barbecue 

225g/8oz Firm Tofu
120ml/4fl.oz Tahini
75g/3oz Ground Walnuts
1 teasp Dill Weed
1 tbsp Soy Sauce
50g/2oz Fresh Breadcrumbs


1. In a large mixing bowl, mash together the tofu and tahini. Add the dill weed and soy sauce and mix well.

2. Add the bread crumbs a little at a time until the mixture is just stiff enough to bind. Form into burgers.

3. Cook over medium hot coals for 5-7 minutes on each side until browned on both sides and cooked through. Serve immediately.


Serving Suggestions


Serve on their own or in a bun with garnishes such as shredded lettuce, tomato slices, pickled gherkin slices, mustard, ketchup or mayonnaise.


Tips, Options and Substitutions


Use any hard cheese you have to hand such as cheddar, double  Gloucester or Cheshire

Substitute the tarragon with thyme

Using a hamburger press as shown on the left, cuts down on the amount of time it takes to make each burger and ensures all your burgers are the same size and so cook at the same time
